Carson Mayfield Announces Commitment to Duke
Cornell starting pitcher Carson Mayfield recently committed to Duke University. Mayfield, a red-shirt junior, will finish his Cornell career in the spring of 2026 and enroll at Duke as a graduate student for his final year of college baseball in 2026-27.
Mayfield began his 2025 season with a dominant performance against Duke, tossing six no-hit innings to guide Cornell to an Opening Day victory. The Virginia native posted a 4.26 ERA across 11 appearances for Cornell last season before a dominant stint in the Cape Cod League, where he posted a 1.13 ERA over eight innings with the Wareham Gatemen.
Blake Gillespie Featured in Baseball America
Each year, Baseball America publishes “Draft Report Cards” for all 30 MLB organizations. BA recently released their report card for the New York Yankees’ 2025 draft class, highlighting prospect Blake Gillespie. BA rated Blake’s slider as the best secondary pitch in the Yankees draft class.
In addition to his swing-and-miss slider, Blake has shown a low-to-mid-90s fastball with excellent spin and vertical break. He also has the makings of a plus changeup, though he didn’t need to use the pitch much to find success as an amateur. Blake was the 2025 American Conference Pitcher of the Year and set a record for the most strikeouts by a Canadian in a Division 1 season (131).
Adrian Jimenez Shines at South Carolina
Adrian Jimenez excelling in fall competition!
UNC Charlotte sophomore Adrian Jimenez shined against South Carolina, going 2-for-5 with a no-doubt home run and showcasing elite defense at shortstop.
Jimenez has gained strength and athleticism and is poised for a breakout season in 2026. The Georgia native transferred to Charlotte this past summer after leading VCU in batting average as a true freshman in 2025. With a strong group of returners and transfer portal prospects, headlined by Jimenez, Charlotte looks like an early favorite to compete for the American Conference championship this spring.
